EVERY last bit of evidence from WWII is that strategic bombing is
counterproductive. Nothing, not one shread of evidence suggests that bombing
civilians does anything but harden their resolve. Yet the victors are so committed to the common mythology that bombing civilians works that they do so at every opportunity. So the US bombs Iraq ever week for eight straight years and Hussein is a hero. A cynic has to observe the rational person knows bombing has the opposite of the proclaimed purpose. One has to conclude Hussein remaining in power is the desired effect. But that assumes those in power are rational. |
